GOOD PLAY BY SHAW

The professional golf tournament was continued to-day under very favourable conditions. The first 56 holes of the Taranaki professional championship of 72 holes were played and simultaneously the Myers Challenge Cup, of 36 holes. The standard of play varied considerably, as will be seen by the respective totals, several of the competitors failing to show their true form. Shaw did the best round of the meeting, doing 71 for the first lime in a proper medal match. Kirkwood did 71 in an exhibition match and Butlers did a similar round in practice on Wednesday of this week, The progress result of the championship of 72 holes, 36 of which have been played is:—Shaw, 71-76-147; Hood, 76- Ham, 77-79-156; Clements, 7977- I'.rooks. 76-81-157; Mullers, 80-80-160; Blair, 82-78-160; Moss, 82-78-160; (Ircig, 88-88-176.
Concurrently with the championship play liic competition for the Myers Challenge Cup was decided. The trophy is presented by rhe Hon. Arthur M. Myers, and is for the best score relumed over the first 56 holes in the championship event. _ Shaw thus wins the trophy this year, with his score of 147. which is six strokes ahead of the next best.
The tournament will bo concluded tomorrow with the final rounds of the championship.
