RUGBY FOOTBALL.

The Canterbury Rugby Union, in discussing (he debarring of military defaulters, expressed a. doubt as to the possibility of
enforcing it efficiently. A motion was tabled thai no action be taken, but an amendment was carried, referring the matter to the annual uiei'ting of the New Zealand Rugby Union. It was decided not to tie the hands of the Canterbury delegates in the matter.
The union also discussed the refusal of the School.-' Football Association to accept entries from denomination schools. A letter was read from the Marisfs' Old Boys Association, asking what action the Rugby Union proposed to take. The Maris! delegate stated that if Maris! schoolboy-' were cut. out of the game, the Old Boys' Association would take drastic action.
The union decided that failing acceptance of Marisfc entries by the Schools' Association, the Union should undertake to arrange a special grade for schoolboys, and also a mid-week secondary schools competition. A committee was set up to report on the matter.
