TAKE JONESCU DEAD.
NOTED ROUMANIAN STATESMAN,

The well-known Roumanian statesman, Take Jonescu, is dead of angina: pectoris.
M. Take Jonescu was a notable Roumanian statesman, who did good service to the Allies during the war. He was born in Wnllachi in 1803 and educated at the University of Paris. Reluming to Roumania he established himself as a lawyer and soon became one of the most prominent in the country.
In politics he became the leader of the Conservative-Democrats, who were hostile to Bratianu. When the Great War started he incessantly urged Roumania to throw in her lot with the Allies and against Germany, and after she had done so he joined the Bratianu Government, formed a coalition,; and remained a member until 1918.
In that year both Bratianu and he resigned when outvoted in Parliament ou the issue whether Roumaiiia, then overrun by the Germans, should continue the struggle. M. Jonescu then went to France and England, but returned to Roumania alter the war was over and became Foreign Minister in 1920. He had a wide knowledge of Balkan politics and problems.
