FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
LOYAL MANAWATU LODGE,
There w;i„s an attendance of 21 members at (he meeting of Loyal Maimvviilu Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0.1'., on Thursday evening, presided over by N.G. Bro F. Clark. During iho evening a framed members’ emblem was presented to V.G. Bro. 0. J. Rodgers for the manner in which he had carried through the work of E.S. during the past half-year. The presentation was made by L.M, Bro. 11. S. Watson, P.G., and duly acknowledged. Appreciation references wore made to (he work done by P.O.’s Bros. J. B, Gerrand and R.-S. Watson in connection with the St. Helen’s Homo campaign. It was decided to have a chimney erected in the main hall. The lodge passed a vote of thanks to the Loyal Dannovirkc Lodge for the welcome accorded representatives of this lodge who attended the special gathering there on June 24th. The lodge pedestals were draped in black in memory of the Into Bro. J. W. Mucleod. Votes of condolence wore passed lo Mrs Macleod on account of the death of her son; to P,G. Bro. W. S. Woodroofe and Bro. Walter Woodroofe on account of the death of their father; and to P.G. Bro. Thos. Webb on account of the death of his brother. The quarterly balance shoot and auditor’s reporUwere received and adopted, showing that flic sick end funeral fund had now reached £8333 us 9d, The total interest to date has reached £4982 9s sd, and the sick pay £4704 Os _lod, showing n balance in favour of the interest account of £278 8s 7d, It was decided to hold a meeting of the lodge committees on Thursday evening next.
ORIENT LODGE, 1.00. F., No. 42
The half-yearly meeting of the above lodge was held in the lodge room last evening, when there was a large attendance of members, presided over by N.G. Bro. W McMinn. One candidate was proposed for membership. Routine business- was transacted, included in which was an offer from J)i. Pencil of a trophy for the member introducing most new members during the ensuing half-year. It. was decided to write to the doctor thanking him for his kindness. The installation ceremony was then proceeded with, and the D.D.G.M., P.O. Bro F. E. Buck, assisted by P.O.'s Bros. Smillie, Jamieson, Mellor, Thompson and Bell, installed the following officers; Junior P.G., Bro. McMinn; N.G., Bro. H. Crozier; V.G., Bro. Persson; Roc. Secretary, Bro. Cl. Crozier; Conductor, Bro. 11 arclie; Warden, Bro. Burkin; 1.G., Bro. Millar; lI.S. to N.G., P.G. Bro. 11. Thom| son; E.S. to N.G.. P.O. Bro. Mellor; R.S. to V.C., Bro. Robbie; L.S. to V.G., Bro. C. Thompson; R.S.S., Bro. Williamson; E.S.S.. Bro. O’Neill; Chaplin, Bro. Wright. P.G., Bro. McMinn gave the N.G. charge in the ritual competition in a very -capable manner. The meeting then adjourned to the Foresters’ Hall, where u social evening was held, visitors being p.resent from the various lodges in the district. Bro, 11. Spencer’s orchestra provided excellent dance music. Bro. Crozier acted as M.C., and altogether a very enjoyable evening was_ spent, the gathering terminating at midnight. Extras were played by Miss O’Brien and Bro. Rosanoski.
