MORVICIPS KENTUCKY DERBY. VANCOUVER, May 13. Two American racing classics, each of a purse exceeding £IO,OOO sterling, were decided to-day. At the Pimlico track (Baltimore) 28,000 spectators saw Pillory win the Preakness Stakes, nine furlongs, from Ilea and June Grass. The time was 2 3-ssoe behind the world's record of 1.49, made by Gaoler last year. The second race was the famous Kentucky Derby, one mile and a-quarter, at, the Louisville traok, where 10 horses faced the barrier, Morvich being a strong favour, iie. There were 75.000 spectators, and the weather was perfect. The track" was as "fast as lightning." Morvich scored an easy win. Betmosio being second and John Finn third. Time, 2.4 3-5. Morvich was the sensational two-year-old of the last American season, lie was unbeaten, and won 11 races, worth over £23,000. After winning his first two races hi' was sold for £IOOO, but long before the end of the season he changed hands at about £15.000. Like Eurythmic, he throws it fore-leg out in a peculiar way when galloping, but Morvich's is actually crooked. He has onlv once been headed in a race.
