WAGES OF APPRENTICES.
(Por Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 15. At (ho Arbitration Court. Mr Lightfoot. representing the Labour Department, drew attention to the position of apprentices. The lowest weekly wagte was 15s; in some cases no bonus had been given, and in the majority of eases only Is had been allowed. His Honour said the Court had power to review the bonus and the basic wage. Supposing tho court- said that in all probability it, considered 14s Gd as the new standard rate, and it could be shown that apprentices were receiving only 15s without a bonus, that would make a ground for application for a reduction of bd instead of Is 6d. He was afraid that applications would have to be made to vary the order of reference for the terms differed so much that the court could not make a general order. Mr Lightfoot said he thought His Honour's suggestion would meet the case.
