In the Legislative Assembly Mr Merrimaii moved the adjournment in order to discuss the situation arising out of the attacks on natives, lie urged that severe measures he taken to suppress outrages. Genera! Smuts said ho hoped the House would strongly denounce the ■outrages, and In* read a telegram staling Thai a large body of armed natives marching on Vrededorp were turned hack by the officials. General Smuts added that lawless, revolutionary hands were marching about murdering natives and interfering with law abiding citizens. The Government could not, continue the policy of patience and forbearance, and (lie .consequences would be upon those who did these lawless acts, —A. and N.Z. cable.
