PALMERSTON RIVER BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Palmcrsion North River Board met ihia afternoon. There were present Messrs .1. A. Nash, M.P. (in the chair). S. R. Lancaster, F.■ Neecihain, and L. R. Bryant. The engineer (Mr J. R; Hughes) reported thai ho endeavoured to persuade some contractors to undertake the work of extractIn.; the piles at the old groyne, but without success, lie had made four attempts in ihis connection, but contractors were not inclined to tender, as they did not know cxactlv how to go about the work. Mr Uuuhes also advised that he had applied io the Public Works Department for a quantity ot piles required, bin, so far he had not received any reply. It, was decided to make an inspection of the works on the, day of next meeting. Mr Fisher, an expert on river protection work, is to be asked to accompany the board, as according lo lhe chairman some of the members were of the opinion that his scheme willi regard lo the groyne should be continued.
