ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(Per Press, Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, April 4, A party , of motorists returning from Chain's Bay to Christchurch" met with an accident on the Akaroa road near the Hilltop op Saturday night. The earcontained six passengers, and when coining up Barry's Bay Hill the lights suddenly failed and the car fell over a cliff, about 100 feet high. The occupants .were thrown in all directions, and all were more or less injured, the most seriously ‘ being George Storey, hr member of the George Sunshine Co., appearing at the Opera House. Two of the party managed to reach the hotel at the hilltop, and medical aid was obtained from Akaroa and an,.ambulancefrom Christchurch.' Mr Storey,hi most serious injury is a broken leg. ■ y y. A boy named Edward Lovell. 16 years of age, was trying to catch a. goat in a paddock adjoining, the river, when he fell into the river, Another boy who was with’him ran for- help.' and a. man named Evans was quickly on the spot. He dived and recovered' thobody at the first attempt after he had been 15 minutes in rho water, but the. boyy failed to rally. Tho father, who is-living' in Auckland.' lost another Ton in the same river 18 months ago.
