NEWSPAPER ENTERPRISE.
With a commendable spirit of enterprise tho Pahinfcua Herald Company, Ltd., has, in order to keep abreast- of the progress of the town and district, considerably enlarged its- publication. Yesterday witnessed tbe passing of the Pallia tea Herald of eight sheets, each containing-six small columns, and the birth of an eight-page paper of seven columns of considerably greater length. To accomplish this lias necessitated the- purchase of a new' np-to-■datc printing press and other machinery. Tho Herald was practically founded on June 11, 1886, by Air Alexander Black, who found ins' way into the district with “an antiquated .press and -a handful of type/' Tho production was then known as tiie Pahintna ■ Star and Eketalnma Advertiser which, on; September 8, 1893, was merged in the Puhiatua Herald, which had been established nearly five months previously l>y a company .which employed, Mr Black as manager, lie having ceased his connection with, (he Star on-Slay 22 in that year. A 'perusal of the paper's history, as published...-.-in-yesterday’s issue, shows that the-paper has weathered many financial storms, has passed through The vicissitudes which are part of a pioneering venture, and is now firmly established. That it will continue t'o prosper will bo the wish, of it? many, supporters. , Under die able.guidance of its editor and malinger (Mr Colin MacDonald) ii should certainly do so.
