GOVERNMENT’S ASSISTANCE

Received July 9, 9.30 a.m. LONDON, July 7. Sir R. S. Horne (President of the Board of Trade) has written to Sir Hetiry Birchonougli, chairman of the Emrpiro Cotton Growing Committee, outlining the Government’s policy. Ho states that if the committee’s proposals are, fulfilled they will greatly benefit, not' only the British cotton industry, but 1 also the development of all the actual. and potential cotton growing portion of the Empire. In the event of thej cotton trade undertaking the proposed levy upon itself of sixpence a hale, which is estimated to produce £103,000 annually, the Government will votf* £50,000 annually for five years to enajble the committee’s projects to be carried out. Slir R. S. Horne hopes the committee will! proceed without delay to complete the organisation.—(A. and N.Z. cable.)
