The weather was dull and showery for th(> opening day of tho Woodville District Jockey Club’s meeting. Tho attendance was large, being the second best the Club has yet had. The track was in splendid order, and bore evidence of the good work done by tint caretaker.- Some keen contests were witnessed, and altogether it was an enjoyable day’s sport. Mr W. A. Lyon held the reins of management, and that gentleman and his assistants are to be congratulated upon their eflorts. Mr C. O’Connor dispatched tho fields well in all the events. Along the back the lastmentioned led from Ladogenr, but approaching the home turning were passed by .Multaine and Borealis. These two looked like fighting out the finish, but at the distance Lovematch put in a claim, and in a good set-to won by half a length, third horse close up. Punka was fourth. Time, 1.15 2.5.
