, FIRST ANNUAL SPORTS DAY. The first animal sports and prize day of the Essex House school was held on I nesday and was attended by a number of gelations and friends ot the pupils._ During’ ihe sports a great deal (if eiuhnsniM.n was displayed, and on almost all occasions the contests -were keenly competed. 'lhe distribution of prizes was made, by Lieut. ( 01. .1. 11. Whyte, who made a fitting speech for the occasion. The t\vo challenge shields (tug-of-war and relay race). were won by the boarders’ team, and in the- allround cricket test competition for a bat given by Mr G. 11. Messrs Davis, llannay, Hankins and Gillingham acted as judges, and Mr W. L. Fitzherbert was timekeeper. The starter was the Rev. L. W. Fenn.
