DE MOLE GETS £985. LONDON, Nov. 28. Do Mole (the Aiisii’hlian who is credited with the first idea of a workable tank) has received a cheque for £9Bo, which will largely cover his expenses. Brigadier-General Jess (commanding the A.I.F. in the United Kingdom) mpported do Mole’s Claim. The latter das now given his tank to the Austra- . ian V/ar«Museum. The commission which has boon inquiring into the origin of war inventions, particularly the tank, and allotting monetary awards, stufted that fie Mole was the first to , submit a workable model ,ol a tank to the War Office. Unfortunately, though de Mole’s tank was really superior to the model ultimately used, the time was not then ripe for its employment, and do Mole’s plans were laid aside. The commission much regretted that it had no power to make a monetary award to do Mole.
