AN ATLANTIC STORM.
IMPERIAL MEAT SUPPLIES.
FOURTEEN VESSELS DAMAGED.
By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. HALIFAX, Dec. 13. According to radio messages,, _ fourteen vessels were caught in an Atlantic storm, and partly damaged. The vessels are making for ports, and several have asked for assistance. A Boston message states the British steamer Messina is sinking m the North Atlantic. There is no help near.
A Boston message states that the steamer Maploleaf reports that she is hastening to the rescue of the Messina.

The committee on meat supplies cabled on the 16th of April has issued a which states that the probable quantities of meat that can he shipped in 1921 will bo 1.371.000 tons in 254 steamers, _of _ which 480.000 will be from Australasia in 132 steamers; and 847.000 from South America, in 69 steamers. The committee received proposals that the contracts with Australia and New Zealand should be extended long enough to cove* the reconstruction period, hut it was decided not to proceed with tho consideration of this plan in the absence of any evidence that the Dominions wanted tho contracts maintained. The committee t(links, as far as mutton and lamb'are concerned, the Empire will become self-sup-porting within a few years, hut must lie dependent upon South America for the bulk of her beef imports for a considerable time-
