AMERICA’S PROHIBITORY LAW.
By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright # Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. Received December 17. 12.35 p.m. WASHINGTON, Dee 14. Tho Supreme Court’s decision means that millions of gallons of intoxicants stored throughout the country and valued at £200,000,000 will bo nearly a total loss unless peace is proclaimed before constitutional prohibition becomes effective. The Government will lose £100,000,000 in revenue from whisky alone, unless the ban is lifted. Tho decision means the clamping down of tho lid again, wherever it was lifted by tho Federal Court injunctions and subjecting all who sold intoxicants to prosecution. The decision does not settle whether the 75 per cent beer can bo sold under the wartime prohibition. WASHINGTON, Dec. 15. ■ Wartime prohibition has been held to bo constitutional, according to a judge of the United States Supremo Court. f The prohibition will bo accordingly effective until the constitutional amendment making prohibition permanent becamos operative.
