EVIDENCE AT DUNEDIN

(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Fob. 20. The Industries, Committee of the House of Representatives took evidence here today. C. A. Wilson urged increased protection, tax 20 or 25 per rent, on malt flour extract preparations imported from Australia. J Greenfield and J. Neil, representing the sugar of milk and casein industries, protested against (ho railway Height on muriatic acid, and also against having to pay the same railage on low grade coal as on best grade. Mr Wilde asked for the same protection for the felt hat industry as obtained m Australia. lie thought tlie Arbitration Court should not interfere with the wages of work, ers who competed against, overseas labour unless the tariff was regulated accordingly. J. B. Shaddock expressed the opinion that the industries New Zealand should develop wore those closely associated with the primary products of the soil. He thought that if it was desired to protect a certain industry there should be .something in ihe nature of a bonus, based on the freights between here and the Old Country.
