A NAVAL ENCOUNTER.
LIGHT CRUISERS- ENGAGED. Auatralian-Now Zealand Cable Association. LONDON, Nov. 17. The Admiralty_ reports: Our light forces operating in Heligoland Right engaged the enemy’s light cruisers this morning. The latter retired at high speed. We are pursuing. COPENHAGEN, Nov. 17. The Danish frontier reports a violent cannonade tills morning in the North Sea, westward of .Manoe Island. It lasted four hours and \«is punctuated by heavy explosions. It is believed a largo numb"r of Baltic warships arc engaged, several of which were seen. ENEMY CRUISERS RETIRE IN TROUBLE. Receive*! November 19. 11.20 a.m. LONDON. Nov. 18. The Admiralty reports there is no further iiifiormution regarding the Heligoland Right ojterations beyond the fact that the _ enemy light cruiset'.s were chased to within thirty miles of Heligoland, and until they were under the protection of the battle fleet minefield, tthru we retired. One onemv light cruiser was seten afire and another’s machinery appeared to ho damaged. An enemy mine swoeper was sunk. We had no losses, only slight damage to the ships. The casualties were slight. THE USAJAL GERMAN LIE. Received November 19. 11.20 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 18. A German naval communique states that strong British naval forces attempted to break into the German Bight on the morning of »he ,17th. Our guardships located them on the lino of; Horn’s reef, Telescbelling An immediate counter-thrust by our advanced forces repulsed them easily, Wo sustained no losses.
