ON THE BAINSIZZA PLATEAU.
GREAT BATTLE IN PROGRESS. GEN. G'ADORNA REINFORCED BY ENGLISH AND FRENCH TROOPS. Australian-New Zealand Cade Association Received October 26, 10.30 a.in. NEW YORK, Oct. 25. Cable advices report that an extremely great battle is raging on the Bainsizza Plateau. Twenty new divisions of Austrians arc partaking in (lie offensive. General Cado rna has been reinforced by English and French troops. LONDON, Oct. 25. _ A German wireless message says: —We made a combined attack on the Italian front making progress and taking some thousands of the Italian prisoners. LONDON, Oct. 24. A correspondent at Italian headquarters says: —Practically the whole Austrian army is now on the Italian front, also strong German reinforcements. Apparently it is intended to attack Tolmino, with a view to forcing the Italians to abandon the Bainsizza plateau and retire to the Isonzo line. BAINSIZZA STRUGGLE. WORST TO COME. LONDON, Oct. 16. Mr Jeffries, representative of the Daily Mail on the Italian front, says that the prospects are that the fiercest fighting is yet to conic on the slopes of the Bainsizza Plateau. The enemy’s artillery fire is heavier and more distributed, and the reinforcement of the Austrians from the Russian front is greater than ever. Airmen report that the roads are filled with troops and material of war, that the Austrians are reinforcing their positions on the Isonzo from the Trentino, and also that the total reinforcements since last August wore probably 10D.OOD men, doubling the previo us re inforo em c n ts.
