GLEN OROUA.

Last Saturday evening a party of euchre players journeyed over to Taikorea to try conclusions with the Taikofea Euchre Club. Ihe looal players suffered defeat by about a dozen games. After the tournament was over, the Taikorea Club entertained the visitors to a right royal supper. During the evening songs were sung by Messrs Knight, Carroll, West, and Buchanan. Mr Gibbs, on behalf of the visitors, kindly thanked the Taikorea Club for the very pleasant evening spent. The return is to be played at Glen Oroua in about a fortnight's time. I would like to draw attention to the corner known as Hopping's corner, half way between Rongotea and Glen Oroua. It is not at all a safe corner now that there is so much motor traffic on the roads. There have been several narrow escapes from serious accidents at this corner lately. If motor danger signals were erected it would probably lessen the danger considerably. The friends of Mr ar;r? Mrs J. P. Larsen will be pleased to hear that their daughter, who is in the Palmerston Hospital with a broken nose, is getting on very nicely. It appears that she wr.s riding on horseback and rode underneath a wire clothes line, and tho wire caught her across the nose, breaking it. very badly. I notice thnt Mr Gibbs, headmaster at the school, hat the two new plota of ground for school gardens in a very nice state of cultivation in readiness for the coming season. Thi6 Bchool has also a very nioe swimming bath, »ut down in concrete, enclosed on three sides with roofing iron ten feet high, the other end being taken up with two large dressing rooms. The size of the bath is 50ft, by 30ft. with about sf». 6in. depth, filled by a largo artesian flow. Part of the cost was by coronation grant, and the balance was found: by the local residents. The bath is open to the public at certain hours out of «chool-hours.

During the heavy galo of last week Mr had the misfortune to have his large hay shed blown completely down. Tho canvassers for the ambulance fund report excellent results to date, and when ,the district is c&mpletely canvassed a meeting is to be held and the amount forwarded to the proper, authorities.
