Mrs Lin sell passed away at 6 o'clock on Tuesday night in the Otaki Hospital after a short illness. The deepest sympathy is felt here fore the bereaved husband, Air F. Lineell, who ie left with threo little ones. Mr Chae* Dunckley, of the Shannon Post Office staff, has been appointed to Tcloga Bay( north of Gisborne. His place here will be filled by Mr E. V. Hunt, of Wellington. Mr Dunckley expects to leave next Tuesday. The Rev. McNeur delivered a very interesting lecture in tho Presbyterian Church on Tuesday night on "Changing China." It wbb well attended and illustrated throagbout with lantern slides. A meeting of the Vestry of the Venerable Bede's Church waft held on Tuesday night. The Rev. Chas. Palmer presided. Mr W. H. Gunning reported that the financial position of the church for the past two quarters was very satisfactory and that the envelope system was working well. It was decided to hold special services and collections on October 4th in aid of the poor of Ireland, Great Britain and Belgium. Mr Knyvett Was appointed envelope secretary in place of Mr Chas. Dunckley. A vote of thanks was passed to the . latter gentleman for his services, A vote of sympathy waa passed to Mr F. Linfeell in his sad bereavement. The meeting closed with the benediotion.

Tho gate takings for the patriotic football match on Saturday amounted to £1 lis. Arrangements are being made for a combined sports ball in aid of the Patriotio Fund.

The sum of £3 waa collected at the Shannon publio school in aid of the war fund*. Two little girls in Miss Hughes' class were successful in winning the Palirierston North writing competition prize. The money has been devoted to the purchase of books for the school library. A meeting of the Patriotic Committeed was held on Friday. Mr F. VV. Venn presided. The secretary reported the total amount received to date was £147 14a lid. There was also the proceeds of the concert, ball and football match to in. Another meeting of the committee will be held next Friday.
