Brookes beat Clements, 6—3, 6—o, 6—o, and Dav/dson beat Watson. 6-2, 6-4, 5—7, 6-1. Mavrogadato beat Scott, 6—4, 6—l, 6—4; Beamish beat Crawley, 6—2, 7—5, 6—4; and Gore beat Lyle, 6—2, 6—o, 6—2. AN AUSTRALIAN'S DEFEAT. LONDON, June 25. Dawson defeated Decugis, 6—4, 4—6, 6—l, 6—3; Parke defeated Caridia, 6—2, 6—2, 6—l; Mavrogordato defeated Doust (Australia), 6—o, 6—4, 6—4; Dunlop (Australia) and Harding defeated David and Gordon Smith, 9—7, 4—6, 6—2, 6—l; Brookes and Wilding had a walk-over against Wallis Myers and Craig-Biddle. Doust started badly, and Navrogordato's good network piled up a sequence of seven games. His cross volleys were magnificent. There was a splendid struggle in the third set, but the Englishman's cross strokes scored ace after ace. Hardin's powerful service and all-round excellence, coupled with Dunlop's smashing and pushing drives, were the chief factors in their doubles victory.
