As the "wet" days draw to a close speculation increases as to how the decree will be accepted. Under the new regime officers are not allowed to have liquor aboard ships or on any naval reserve.
FRANCE'S NAVAL NEEDS.
MUST CONTROL MEDITERRANEAN.
(Bt Euctbio Tbuobaph—Copibiqu.) (Pib Puss AseociATioiT.) Received June 27, 8.25 a.m. PARIS, June 26. In the Senate, during a discussion on the Naval Estimates, M. Chautemps' Naval Committee reported that the principal object of France's policy was to assure at all costs the control of the Mediterranean for herself and her allies. It was necessary to prevent Germany being able to revictual Italian and Austrian forts. At present the French fleet was equal to the united Austro-Italian fleets. It was necessary to raise the battle fleet from twenty-eight to thirty-three to gain superiority.
