DARING DAYLIGHT HOLD-UP.
PAY CLERIC ROBBED OF £3,300 ■■ '- STOLEN MOTOR-CAR AND MASKED DESPERADO. SYDNEY'S CRIME RECORDS BROKEN. (Br luorao TajQiira-Ooniian.) (PlB PUM ABBOGUTIOM.) SYDNEY, June 10. The most daring daylight robbery in the annals of Sydney's crime occurred at noon to-day. A pay clerk drew £6700 from a bank to pay the men in the Everleigh workshops, drove to the Wilson street entrance in a cab and placed a cash box containing £3300 on the shoulders of a workman. Simultaneously a motor car drew up and a masked man held up the clerk with a revolver. He snatched the box, transferred it to his oar, and drove off A passing cart dashed off in pursuit, but the horse collapsed, and the pursuer was compelled to abandon the chase. The robjbers stole the car an hour earlier from the corner of Market and Castlereagh streets Startling developments are expected in connection with the robbery. The police have detained the pay olerk. an employee, and the cabman. Finger prints were found on the motor oar, which, with the empty cash box was discovered at Pyrmont..
WELL-PLANNED CRIME. CLERKS ARMED BUT ATTACK TOO SUDDEN. Received June 11, 9.25 a,m. SYDNEY, June 11. lhe robbers were apparently well aware that yesterday was pay day at the Everleigh workshops and that the pay clerks *°™ d *rnve at a certain time. The money was in charge of two pay clerks John Henry and Frederick Miller, both of whom were armed with revolvers, lhe hold-up was so sudden that the clerks: were nonplussed. One attempted to draw his revolver, but the robber threatened to Wow out his brains if he resisted. lhe desperado soon secured the box and drove off at top speed. The niissing money consisted of £2150 in £5 notes £IO3B gold ; and the balance in auver and copper.
