AUSTRALIANS' GREAT BATTING FEAT. HALF CENTURY IN NINE MINUTES. (PBB PBIHH ASSOCIATION.) TIMARU, March 5. The run-getting by the Australians in the match yesterday established New Zealand, Australian and world's records. Great displays were given by Cody, Crawford and Trumper. With the exception of McGregor, Cody scored slower than any of the high-total men. He hit fifteen 4's and gave a life when at 53. Crawford gave several chances, almost all of which would have been accepted by a first-class field. He opened his shoulder to everything and could be, barring chances, likened to Jessop. He hit fourteen G's and fortyfive 4'e. Trumper played a characteristic innings, scoring all round the wicket by pretty strokes. He hit one 6 and twenty-one 4'e. Half-century by partnerships were got in ten minutes, the fastest in nine minutes, a world's record, being got by Ifoble and Crawford. The bowling was good until at the finish fatigue broke it down and the batsmen did what thev liked.
