FIGHTING CONSUMPTION.
TUBERCULIN TREATMENT. KOCH'S DISCOVERY IN FAVOUR. (Independent Cable Association.) NEW YORK, Feb. 21. Over 50 doctors received their first lesson yesterday at the Polytechnic Hospital in the treatment of tuberculosi;; with a modified and perfected form of Kwh's tuberculin.
Ine tuberculin is exactly the same as that produced by the famous German scientist, and which was only partly successful. It is now said, however, to be curing nearly 100 per cent, of the bone and gland cases treated, and also of lung cases where the disease is in the first stage. In lung cases of the second! stage 90 per cent, of cures are reported,, but when the disease has reached the third stage the use of the tuberculin is likely to hasten death.
The reason of the failure in the early years of the use of tuberculin is that, the amount of the dose was too large. Formerly a tenth of a milligram to a, milligram was used at an injection. This; is a million to ten million times as great as the dose administered to-day.
