FATAL ACCIDENT.

INQUEST AT RONGOTEA

Mr E. Goodbehere, District Coroner, hold an inquest at Rongotea touching the death of Elva Marion Woodley, 5 years of age, who was killed through falling out of a trap on Friday last. •" James Alexander Woodley deposed that he was a farmer residing at Taylor road, Rongotea. The deceased was his daughter, Elva Marion, who was 5 years old on February 10 last.

Amy Hosena Woodley, cousin of the de- [ oeased, 16 years of age, deposed that she i was driving; a horse and trap on Taylor road on Friday last and deceased was with j j was on the seat, but she suddenly 6tood up after going a short distance, and appeared to overbalance herself. Witness caught hold of her clothing, but it gave way and she fell on to the wheel, and thence on to the road. The horse was trotting slowly at the time. Witness pulled the horse to the left to prevent the wheels over her head, and the horse went about 20 yards before it could bo stopped, lurned round and saw deceased had got up and was walking on the grass at. the side of the road. She then lay down on the grass on her face. In reply to a question, she said her stomach was sore and and Mr largett, a neighbour, carried her into her father's house.

Dr. Stendahl, who had been called in, deposed he found deceased in a cfyirio- condition. 4 Tho only external marks wero a bruise on the chin and an abrasion on the right hand. She was vomiting, bur there was no sign of bleeding from the nose or mouth, oho was breathing irregularlv her pulse oould not be felt, and she died' in about five minutes. Death was duo to hemorrhage of the brain. Averdict of accidental death was returned.
