GERMANY AND THE PRESS.
FATHERLAND OBJECTS TO ENGLISH CABLES.
(London Times.—Sydney Sun Special.) (Br Electbic Telegbaph—Coptbiqht.) (Pib Pbess Association.) Received September 5, 9 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 4. The Times' Berlin correspondent, referring to the scheme to influence the foreign press, states the ambition of Germany is to be independent of English cables. With this object attempts are being made to establish wireless nctween Nauen (near Berlin) and Togo (German West Africa) and Togo and the Cameroona (German West Africa). It is also proposed to establish a German wireless chain. A South Seas station will be built in Samoa with a range of three thousand kilometres. Stations would be established at New Guinea and the Marshall Islands, all of which are now connected through the Dutch cable. Recent experiments stimulated these schemes. It is reported that connection has been established between Hanover and Tuckerton (United States), a distance of 6600 kilometres.
