THE PEOPLE WHO PAY
(By TELEPHAPH.) (Fiom Oub Parliamentary Reportir.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. A return placed before the House today, on the motion of Mr G. Witty, stated that 13,167 people in the Dominion now paid income tax. Of these 9645 paid on incomes under £7OO a tear ; 700 were between £7OO and £800; 446 were between £BOO and £900; 376
were between £9OO and £1000; 879 » were between £IOOO and £1500; 855 " were between £ISOO and £2000; 286 were between £2OOO and £3000; 140 were between £3OOO and £4000; 78 were between £4OOO and £5000; 70 were between £SOOO and £7000; 74 were between £7OOO and £10,000; while 118 paid income tax on incomes above £IO,OOO a year. A further table gave the amounts paid in cash. The largest class on the scale arranged was that which paid over £SO as income tax; 1341 persona were in this clasa.
