OROUA DRAINAGE BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Oroua Drain age Board was held in the clerk's office Rongotea, yesterday, the following trusted being in attendance Messrs 11. Hun (chairman), J. Gloyn, C. H. Low, and P. J. Eglinton. Apologies were received from Trustees Gray, Hopping and Hall. Correspondence was received from tht Department of Internal Affairs, stating "i had been decided to give effect to tin award of the Commissioner in the .matte: of financial adjustment between the Slug gish river and Orouu drainage districts." Mr J. W. I'oynton, S.M., wrote in reph to letter re sections wrongly included ii drainage areas, and values of fourth clas. lands, stating that he did not think fourtL class lands could be excluded from contri tuition, us they derive benefit from th« drainage system. The sections included ii error were not of sufficient value to mat erially affect the proportion found to lx payable to each Board. Hankins and Fifzherbert, on behalf o; Messrs ,J. Lucas and R. Mudford, com plained of the condition of drains on theii properties.—Decided to clear drains early in the new season.

Mr C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., forwarded t copy of tho proposed amending Bill fi Drainage Boards, which is coming befort Parliament. It was decided to acknow ledge receipt of letter and give matter fur thcr consideration before giving a Una. reply. The clerk brought under the notice of th< Board the large amount outstanding fo: rates, and asked for instructions as t< same. —It was decided that, owing to tht additional work entailed by the iiumbei of outstanding rates for the years 1910-11 12. and the rate book not being jn propei order: also the difficulty in collecting ar rears of rates, the elerk be allowed a com mission of 5 per cent oil all arrears o' rates collected for 1910-11-12, collected dur ing the financial year. Jt was decided to insure the office ai Glen Oroua for £IOO.

Accounts totalling £ll4 7s 4d were pass ed for payment. Mr G. MeCarty waited on the Board n the amount owing to him on his contrac completed some two venrs ago, and aske( that an amount be paid on account. Th. chairman explained the position to Mi MeCarty, and informed him that now tha' matters had been straightened out jthc question would be attended to and a satis factory settlement made at an early date. Mr MeCarty expressed himself satisfiec with the position as explained by tht chairman.

A request from certain ratepayers, ask ing that their land be made second claw when making out new classifications, wsf held over to be considered at a full meet ing of the Board.
