FRUIT-GROWERS AND THE RAILWAY.

(Pes Prrss Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. A deputation irom the Conference of •New Zealand Fruit Growers' Federation waited on Hon. W. H. Herries, Minister lor Railways, to-day and urged better railway facilities lor the carriage of fruit. They pointed out that the present trucks did not allow sufficient ventilation, submitted a plan for a upecial truck. They also urged a more equitable system of railway charge# on fruit and a system of through booking. The.. Minister, replying, said he would go into the question of tariff from top to bottom when the new manager of railways arrived. At present negotiations were wnding with the Union Company for through booking of fruit.
