The death is announced by cable of the Maharajah Cooch Behar (Raj Rajendra Nasayan); of Bengal, who was staying at .Cromer, a, watering-place on th©, coast of 'Nor folk.'

Mr Oliver Smith died at Georgetown, near Oamaru, last week, at the age of 102 years. He was born in the Shetland Islands, and had been in New Zealand for 37 years. .He never had an illness sufficient to make him stop work for a day, and his faculties were unimpaired right up to the last.

The funeral of the late Mr A. W. Skerman, of Otaki, took place in Palmerston North on Sunday afternoon. A large nunil>er of relatives and friends were present at the graveside to pay their last respects to deceased, who was held in such wide esteem in the town and district. The service .vas conducted by Rev. H. G. Rosher. At the annual meeting of the Woodville Jockey Club the chairman made mention of the fact that the secretary, Mr Gothard, had controlled the affaire of the olub very satisfactorily, and recommended that his salary be increased to £2OO. The recommendation was unanimously adopted by the meeting.
