WELLINGTON, April 22. =■ ' 'Mr Dean, head of an old,established ' legal firm here, has been seriously ill for some time past and' but faint hopes of his recovery are now entertained. Guide Murphy from Mt. Cook is , passing through Wellington on his way to New Plymouth. He has been asked, to visit Mi'Egmont with a view to assisting in, its development as a tourist resort. Murphy, who has gamed valuable experience at Mt. Cook, and who is an excellent mountaineer, thinks that something may be done towards, developing winter'sports, such. •as ski running and toboganning, on the slopes of Mt. Egmont. If suitable snow clad slopes exist there would be several expert "skiers" who would visit .the district periodically from Wellington. The Hon. lA. Millar and' Miss Millar leave for Dunedin to-night. Theyhayo vacated the Ministerial residence in Tinako'rl road in which Mr Laurenson and his.family have now taken up their rpsidGUCGt The Royal New Zealand Artillery, our' small permanent force, is in need of a limited number of recruits. Single men, between the ages of, 18. and 25, are wanted. The force is a very capable one and a high standard, of. physique and efficiency is •maintained.'
