F. W. MAYO'S NURSERY.

ON FOXTON LINE.

This well-known nurseryman and fruitgrower is now firmly established at ltis new nursery on Foxton Line. It only seems a few months back when this finelv planted property was a huge uncultivated paddock, and the person who saw it twelve months ago would not to-day imagine it to be the same property. Fifteen acres of the thirty owned by Mr Mayo has been laid out as a nursery and orchard. The nursery contains rows and rows of splendid young fruit and shelter trees of only the best sort. At the back of tho section a fine plot of 50,000 Northern Spy apple trees, all in healthy condition and ready for planting out, showby their quality the splendid attention bestowed on them. Peach trees comprising such well-known kinds as Briggfi' Red May, Hale's Early, Triumph, Early Silver, Dr'Hogg, Sea Eagle, Osprey, and many others are also to be found by (he thousand, and each row six chains long, looking in tho best of condition. Mr Mayo grows for sale only the best fruiting-trees, and as a proof Qf quality has planted his orchard from stock' grown at tho nursery. In shelter and ornamental trees Mr Mayo is a specialist, and guarantees that every tree sent out by him will grow, his reasons for this being that no tree is sent out from the nursery unless it has been properly "wrenched or lifted; in fact, Mr Mavo 6ays "that ono would grow in your waistcoat pocket after being treated by him. Tho stock of shelter trees on hand at the present time number—some thousands, including Pinus Insignis, macracarpa, barbery, gums (all sorts), and the usual run of good shelter Mr Mayo is a great believer in Pinus Insignis us a shelter tree, and cousidcis it tho best-known for the purpose, in that it is hardiest and will etar.d be'ng planted closer together than most others of its kind. Mr Mayo has recently finished pruning his fruit-bearing peach trees, of which he has a largo number. This pruniii'r is done on scientific linos, and lessons will bo given in this class of pruning gratis to anyone inlerestal in Ifacli flowing.
