(Peb Press association.! WELLINGTON, Mav 17. At tho Supremo Court to-day, William James Hamilton was acquitted on a charge of assaulting Francis McCann at Wellington Opera House. Wijliam John Carpenter charged with assaulting Nicholas Ricr.rd Normile so as to cause him bodily harm. Both men had been employed on the steamer Taonui. Accused admitted tho assault, but pleaded provocation, and that he had acted in self-defence. The jury returned verdict of guilty with a recommendation ,to mercy. His Honor, tho Chief Justice, said ho believed the assault was committed in sudden heat, and was not premeditated. Prisoner was fined £2O. It was subsequently stated that tho amount of tho fino had been subscribed in Court. ALWAYS RECOMMENDS IT. "On a number of occasions during the past three years I have used Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera, and Diarrhoea Remedy and cannot 6peak too highly of it , for giving ease and relief," says Mr J. 11. Biclcerstaff, of Napier, New Zea- , land. "I might also mention having recommended it to customers who were equally well pleased with results.
