MEETING OF CREDITORS.
ESTATE OF MRS. R, PEATTIE. ■The--first ..meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Mrs Eachael Peattie, fish shop proprietress, of Palmerston, was convened for yesterday afternoon, but 110, creditors put in an appearance. ' Mr 11. G. Fletcher was present on behalf of. : the /bankrupt, and handed the D.O.A- the following statement:*— "For a. period, of 18 months previous to commcncinjg :bii£incss . 'on my' own account • in,.Palmerston North I was serving with my husband on Mr Birch's station, near Taihape. On leaving possessed £36.,. With. this money I commenced business in Palmerston on April -Ith, 1908, in a small shop in Main streeet as a confectioner. The, rental at tlio first was 12s per week,;l was in this shop for about five ; months - when 1 moved into a larger shop at. a reiita 1 of £l ..-yvoekly. For the.:first 12:• to■ 18 months I was always able to pay my way,- as th.e business more or less flourished.. After about 18■■ months business gradually ■ bogan to go slack, and (iid not improve as time went on. During May, 1910, I removal .into., the shop where I was when' T became bankrupt. In this shop I. carried on a lisif supper room trade, but found this' business to be no better'.than the confectionery. I have a husband and an aged mother, both. dependent on me. My .'husband is ail invalid ■ and cannot work. My mother is too. old to work. 1. have done my-best .for the creditors and worked night and day in the endeavours to pay tlieni. Should 1 at any time become financial I shall be only too pleased ,to pay all my creditors 20s in the £l. *:I attribute. my bankruptcy to the poor state of business and to the fact that-I'.'have' to keep my husband and mother.
