big rush begins. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Peb Pbess Association.! VICTORIA (8.C.), June 29. A big rush of prospectors has set in to Northern British Columbia, following the sensational discovery in the neighbourhood of Stewart City. At the latter point, on the Portland Canal, a small city , has sprung up m the last four months, as the result of the opening up of a number of very rich quartz properties, and prices of town lots run into excessive figures. The present find, which has raised excitement to fever heat, is said to be a mammoth gold reef of free milling The discovery was made by Messrs C. M. Delgrove and Louis Anderson on one of the forks of Bitter Greek, about 13 miles up. the valley from Stewart. • The ledge was first reported to be 3000 ft wide, but more conservative estimates place it at 50ft. • Assays run to nearly fifty dollars a ton. A stamped© of the whole population followed the publication of the news, but the mountain side at the scene is very precipitous, and few of them reached the ground. ' The whole of the vicinity has now been staked, and mill tests will follow. , . The whole of the Northern Coast is experimenting, j and' there is great mining activity. . Great improvement in transportation is following the building of the town of Prince Rupert, which is a hundred miles from Stewart, that having formed a big incentive to prospectors.
