The Ruahino, due from London on Sunday or Monday, brings 167 'passengers in the third class and 41 in the second. There aro 30 assisted immigrants, seven being children, and the remainder domestics and wives rejoining their husbands. The- Sussex, due on June 14 from Liverpool, brings 36 assisted immigrants. CHRISTCHURCH, May 26. Speaking at the Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union here this morning Mr Richard Evans, the President, said the season had been the most disappointing they had ever known, particularly after the great expectations of spring. In many casos the grain might very well have boon burnt. After making more or lose political references in a gloomy strain Mr Evans concluded: "I can only compare New Zealand to Rome in the days when Nero fiddled and the people around him danced !"
