COLONIAL DREADNOUGHTS,
At the annual meeting of the British Empire League at Toronto, a resolution was passed regretting that Canada had made it appear that she was unwilling to join Australia and New Zealand in providing for tho immediate construction of battleships for strengthening the Imperial fleet.
NEW YORK MAYOR'S STRONG CRITICISM.
A lively scene occurred at the annual American press dinner in New York. The Mayor of the city, Justice Gaynor, after some biting criticism on Mr W. R. Hearst's journalism, went on to say: "To think that a man capable of doing things like this is possessed of a notion that ho is fit to hold office as Mayor or as President. Morally, the mind must b© a wilderness. The voters will never put such a man in office. Cable greetings were received from rulers and other dignitaries in Europe, Aeia, Africa, and South America.
