Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Pahiatua sale of 24th inst. as follows:-We had a heavy yarding of both sheep and cattle, and experienced eood competition throughout the sale for all clakes of stock. We made practically a total clearance of the whole yarding at satisfactory prices. Quotations: — Forward wethers 13s to 133 9d, store wethers 10s 7d to ils Id,. good ewes in lamb 9s to 12s, f.m. ewes in lamb 4s 7d to 7s, forward empty ewes.7s to & lid, store ewes 4s 3d to 6s 10d, good lambs 6s 6d to 8s Bd, medium lambs 5s to 6s 3d, small lambs 3s to 4s 7d, forward bullocks £6 to £6 10s 6d 3 and 4yr bullocks £5 12s 6d to £5 Mβ 6d 3 and 34yr bullocks £4 12s 6d to £5 3s, 18months steers £3 12s to £3 14s, springing dairy cows £4 4s 6d to £6, springing heifers to £5 15s. cows in calf Si 7s to £3 15s, empty cows £1 12s to £2 13s, heifers in calf £3 7s 6d to £4 12s weanors 21s to 28s, cows and calves £3 2s 6d to £4 ls : empty heifers £2 15s.
MARTON. Dalgcty and Company, Ltd., Palmerston North, report :-=-At our Marton sale on Tuesday, the 24th inst., a fair entry of sheep came forward. Lambs were in good demand, but breeding ewes wero hard to quit and sevoral lines were passed in -it auction. Quotations: —Aged ewes in lamb Bs, mixed age breeding ewes to 12s 6d. ompty cull ewes 4s 9d, mixed lambs 8s Id to 9s 3d, woolly lambs to 9s sd, forward ewes 9s 4d, cull lambs to 5s 7d.
JOHNSONVILLE. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonvillc sale as follows: — We offered a good yerding of prime sheep Mid cattle, whhh sold readily at lato rates. Best bullocks £9 1/s good bullocks £9 2s 6d to £9 7s 6d, lighter £8 15s, light end plain £7 to £7 103, prime heavy wethers 17s 3d to 18sV good 16s 9d, good ewes 14s to Ms 10d, others 13s 9d, prime lambs 11s 3d to 12s 4d to 13s 6d.
ADDINGTON. (Peh Pbess Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 25. At Addington there were fairly largo entries of stock and a good attendance. Store sheep sold at about last week e rates. Fat lambs were irregular, but on the- average prices ehowed an advance. Fat cattlo were easier in consequence of the heavy yarding. Fat wethere, except very prime and < inferior, were opened at lower rates, but good heavy ewes sold well. Pigs ehowed practically no change. Store cattle were dull of sale, but dairy cows were . ; n demand. The yarding of store sheep was somewhat below '.ant -week's in point of number, and it consisted principally of lambs and a larger proportion of ewes than of late. There was not very keen demand, and prices were about on the same level as last week. Lambs and wethers met with rather better sale, but ewes were dull of sale, a considerable proportion being from the North Island Sheep.—Well-grown lambe 8s 9d to Hβ, medium 7s 6d to Bs, culls 5s 7d to 7s, 2, 4 and 6-tooth ewes 10s to 10s 6d, aged and broken mouthed 3s 9d to 6s. The entry of fat lambs was somewhat larger than last week, and totalled 10,283, the quality being vory mixed. There was keen competition among the export buyers, especially in the early part of the sale, when there was a rise-" in prices, but afterwards values went back to iast week's '.eyel. The range of prices was 15e 5d to 16s 6d, ordinary Leezors 12s 6d to !ss, light and unfinished 10s 4d to 12s. There was a very large entry of fat sheep, principally ewes. The few lines of prime wethere offered maintained their \alues, as did the prime heavy ewes., tut all other descriptions wero easier, especially aged ewes. The range of prices was—Extra prime wethers to 20s 9d, prime 15s 6d to 18s 9d, medium 13s 9d to 15s, light 12s to 13s 6d, prime ewes 14s 6d to 17s 6d, medium 12s to 14s, aged 7s 3d to Us 6d, merino ewes 6s 10d.
The supply of beef totalled 352 head, a fair proportion being of very prime quality. The extent of the yarding had a depreciating effect upon prices ae compared with last week. Steers made £7 5s to £11 15s, extra to £12 12s 6d. heifers £5 7s 6d to £8 10s, extra to £11 7s 6d, and cows £4. 5e to £8 15s, extra to £9 10s (equal to 24s 6d for extra prime, 20s to £2s 6d for prime, and 18s to 19e 6d for cow and medium quality beef per lOOlbs). Veal calves made 40s 6d to 655, some well-grown animals being entered. There was a. moderate yarding of storo cattle, which included eome good lines of -steers. There was a weak demand and a. considerable proportion of the offerings was passed. Fifteen to 18months made 50s, 2£yr steers £5, 3yr etecrs £5 15s to £6 7s, 3yr heifers £4 10s, and dry cows 25s to £5 17s 6d, dairy cows made' £4 10s to £8 15s, and extra to £10.
There was a medium entry of pigs, and there was practically no change in demand or prices. Choppers sold at 50e to. 84s, large baeoners 45s- to 545, and smaller 35e to 42s 6d (equal to 4d to H<l per !b). Larger porkers 31s to 375, and Smaller 25s to 30s (equal to 4gd per _lb).' Large stores 24s to 31s 6d, and medium 18s to 225, small 9s to 16s, and weaners 4s 6d to 10s.
