ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION.

The Federal Government declined to accede to Captain Scott's request to grant £1000 towards his South Pole expedition. i Mr E. H. Bachelor, Minister for In- ! ternal Affairs, states that as the Imperial ' Government had contributed £20,000 to the expedition, and as Sir Ernest Shackleton did not receive any help from the ■ Imperial Government;, the conditions of ■■ the two expeditions were not the same.
