Tho Engineer reported as follows: — Taonui Riding.—The team and. roadman have been engaged repairing College street extension, Rongotea. road, Foxton line, and Walker's road. The water-tab'e at Longburn and portion of footing have been cleared of grass.- The culvert on Rongotea road, near Kairanga school, has boon blocked by someone nailing boards in tho studs inside. I am getting tho obstruction removed. With reference to the heavy traffic on Karoro road, I would suggest that the Heavy Traffic Bylaws be enforced this winter, unless those interested spend at least £30 on tho road to compensate for damage done to them. They" cart in all kinds of weather, and are not particular where they drive; consequently, a lot of ruts are made, and ' our team has to till them in Mangaone Riding.—Tho maintenance staff has attended to repairs on railway ; road, Robert's line, metailod approaches to Jack's bridge, and Murray's culvert. Removed stumps on Rangitikei lino, and assisted at concrete bridges and culverts. The bridge over Jack's creek has been completed. Also culverts at Murray's and Kelvin Grove, and bridge at Stonoy ■ Creek. Kelvin Grove eulvert requires filling in, and Stonoy Creek bridge requires a little filling on the north side, and plastering 'on the road side. Tho summer road ut Stonoy Creek has been smoothed down, but requires a little more levelling, which will bo better to do when tho ground is soft. There is also more filling required in front of McLovey's, and I intend to fill it in with spoil from the north side of the road. Provision has been made to remove water from tho low place in question, consequently it will not require much filling. Now pipe culverts have been put in across Robert's lino, at junction of Napier road, and opposite Mr Mcßae's, on Napier road. Fitzherbert Riding.—Tho- staff has attended to repairs on Rivor Bank road, Pahiatua road, road, and Kahuterawa Yallev road. One extra man has been employed on tho latter work. The material for building Craw's bridge is on hand, also for concrete pier at Kee ble's Hill, and the work will bo commenced/at once. I am making out a, detailed statement of expenditure for the year, and it will be supplied to Councillors in a day or two. The cost of Jack's bridge is £241 10s, but this does, not allow cost of our c&n team, which would bring it up to £2S(f. GENERAL. Re Karere ioad.—lt was decided that metal carters on road bo written to informing thom tßnt unless they maintain the road by putting 100 yards of metal on it. the provisions of tho bye-laws relating to heavy traffic will be enforced on and after May Ist. Setter's and Kahuterawa road. —It was decided that the Councillors should in(spect these roads. It was decided to hold a special mcetling of the Council,on May 2at 11 a.m. to consider estimates.
