GRAIN PROSPECTS IN CANTERBURY. (Per Puess Association.) CIIRISTCHURCH, April 6. Although threshing , is well forward and under normai circumstances the grain reason should be at its height the amount of business passing is comparatively' small. This is attributed mainly to the fact that, there is an unusually large, proportion of inferior grain. Owing lo the prevalence of rrtin during harvest much of the wheat placed on oll'er during the week in .-seriously ;.!i scoioured and some badly sprouted, making buyers chary except at relatively low figures. A few linos of prime finality have been ottered recently and generally speaking ihc highest price obtained has been 3s 7d oi> tnidco at. country .stations, but for really prime Tuscan perhaps another penny per bushel could be obtained, although it; is difficult to gauge tho market, since so very lit.tl«> of this quality is being placed on ofi'e.r. The bulk of lines which changed luinds during the past week have boon on Hμ; basis of 3-s 4d to 3s G'l. bill.' line* of badly damaged failed to find purehafr-r.H at ;i higher pi-ice than 3-. Several iinoK have boon taken by speculators during the week, some being sprouted, lint this quality it is anticipated can be shipped and placed at Homo for milling purpo«.ofc, the grain being very good except that tho flour made from it will be weaker than from unnprouted wheat. The (irrriMCfH in tho oat market continues and rent y good oats are very scarce. Tho bulk < f the offerings are more or less wcatfu r-stained.
