A HOSTILE DEMONSTRATION

LONDON, March 13
James Patten, the American speculator, was the subject of a hostile demonstration at the Manchester Royal Exchange, members elbowing him and shaking their fists in his face. They compelled the Cotton King to take refuge in a neighbouring office. "With the assistance of a strong police guard he escaped through a fire exit and immediately entrained to Liverpool, where he wa6 sympathetically received. He sails for America today.
