OROUA DRAINAGE BOARD.

The first- meeting-, of the re-contly constituted Oroua Drainage Board was held at Glen Oroua on Saturday. There were present:—Crs. J. Dalton (chairman), B. Gray, 11. 11. Hunt, G. Kendall, G. Low and J. Tennant.

It was decided to call applications for the position of overseer and details will be published at an early date. Prior to the meeting the members of the Board inspected the two sections of the contract on the Main Drain under execution by G McCarty. It was subsequently decided to inform Mr McCarty that until the Board had made arrangements for providing the cost of the third section it oould not give him authority to proceed with that section or authorise him to execute any work thereon.

It was also decided, on the motion of Or. Gray, seconded by C. Tennant, that steps be taken to raise the money required for the completion of the third section of McCarty's oontract, and for the further prosecution of the required improvement work on the continuation of the Board's Main Drain and that application be made to the N.Z. State Guaranteed Advances Board for an advance of £6000 to be spread over a period of two years. Cr. Kendall reported that the contractor not wishing to disband an efficient body of men had already commenced work on the third section and wished to interview the Board.

Mr McCarty, replying to questions, expressed his willingness to complete that portion of the third section of the drain now operated upon and wait four months or such reasonable time for payment for same. The nature of the work to be as the Board's engineer decided, based upon the proportion of the third section of work executed and that he would give a formal undertaking in accordance with the abovo.

It was decided to give McCarty permission to proceed with the work and that the Board's engineer prepare a plan of agreement in with the Board's decision.
