THE EMPIRE MATCH. (Per Phess Association.) TRENTHAM. March 11. The second stage of the Empire match was continued this morning. The scores at 800 yards wore —New Zealand 326, New South Wales 316. New Zealand has a lead of 31 points, with two ranges to go. The- Logan Campbell Shield match has been declared off owing to the absence of the Auckland men last night. There are no money prizes in this match. LATER.
The Empire Match final result was: — New Zealand 2043, New South Wales 1932.
Thorc is drizzling rain for the championship to be fired at 3 o'clock. A special match at a- collapsible target at 200 yards resulted: —Timaru Port Guards, £5 4s, 1; Karori A team, £3, 2; Denniston, £2, 3.
Cover Firing Match, 200 yards.—Karori B, £5, 32 hits, 1; Linwood Rifles and Akarana Rifle Club, £2 10s each, 31 hits each, 2. Surprise Target Match, distances between 1000 and 500 yards.—Hastings Rifles, £5. 1; Opaki Rifle Club, £3, 2; Weber, £2, 3. The Running-man Match was won by Nicholas (Marlborough) with 7 hits and 3 bulls. The prize ie £5.
The United Service Mateh was completed this morning and resulfre'd in a win for the volunteers. The scores were —Volunteers 1731, Rifle- Clubs 1670.
