CRICKET.

THE GAME IN NEW ZEALAND.

ARMSTRONG SEES AN IMPROVE MENT.

,Per Press Association.) CHRISTCI-lURCH, March 10. Mr Warwick Armstrong-, captain of the Australian eleven, who is on his third visit to New Zealand, expresses the emphatic opinion that New Zealand cricket has improved out of all recognition since his first visit to the Dominion, bpeaking here, he said that the game had improved both in batting- and in bowling, and he felt that New Zealand would put up a really good fight in the coming tests. He had soon some very promising material on his present visit, men who would make fine batsmen with a little more coaching. He stated that the weakest feature of New Zealand cricket -was the bowling, and it must be improved, only by persistent practice and good coaching. He paid a warm compliment to the caretaker of the Carisbrook ground in Dunedin. which he said was almost as good as the Melbourne or Sydney wicket. Lancaster Park, he remarked, was a sporting j wicket.
