Sir W. Crowther, of the Kingston road, has recently disposed of his property to the A. and L. Seifert Flaxdressing Company, Ltd., who are in need | of more room for paddocking. The Shannon Rine Club intend holding a social about the 23rd inst. to commemorate winning the "Field Shield." It is possible that the donor will be present to make the presentation. On Monday afternoon Constable Esson received information that a man named Frank Brennaa, aged 25, had endeavoured to commit suicide by shooting himself. It appears that Brennan was working at Ross's camp in the Makcrua swamp, and had left early in the morning for an adjacent piece of bush, where he is said to have made an unsuccessful effort to shoot himself. He was arrested in the evening, and brought before Mr J. R. Stanscll, J. P., on Tuesday, who remanded him to appear at Palmerston North on Monday. On Saturday a team of nine members of the Rifle Club travelled to Levin to try conclusions with the Levin Clubs. The conditions were seven shots at 500 and 600 yards ranges. Shannon suffered a defeat by a margin of 21 The scores were Levin 466 points, Shannon 445.
