(Peb Press Association.) HASTINGS, March 9 The residence owned , by E. Stevenson and occupied by F. Walsh was totally destroyed by fire last night. The insurances on the house were £250 in the State office, and on the furniture £150 in the New Zealand. Walsh lost everything, including about £30 in cash. DUNEDIN, March 9. Frederick Armitage was sentenced to six months for stealing a gold watch, guard, and three old medals. He borrowed the jewellery to wear at a musical evening and subsequently pawned it. CHRISTCHURCH, March 9. There is said to be a prospect of a big team of European riders visiting Australasia this year to compete in the road race, provided the dates enable them to take part in the Timaru-Christchurch, Goulburn-Sydney, and Warrnambool-Mel-bourne events. The League of Wheelmen, is endeavouring to arrange that the dates for the three events will enable the cyclists to compete ;n all.
