The Wyreema struck the Kurrajong a terrific blow at right angles amidships and almost cut her in halves. A vast volume of water poured into the collier, extinguishing the fires. The vessel settled by the head immediately and within a few minutes plunged headlong to the bottom. The Wyreema immediately lowered a boat and'rescued the crew, with the exception of one man. The night was dark but a number of motor boats and other craft were quickly on the spot and picked up the missing man. The damage to the Wyreema is not serious, comprising three email holes in the bows above the waterline. The collision was apparently due to the Kurrajong seeking to avoid a sailing craft and getting right acro6S the Wyreema's course.
